It Takes a Village
For so many scenarios of Stroke recovery and rehabilitation, the best-case scenario is "IT TAKES A VILLAGE!" Not only many different professionals hopefully collaboratively functioning harmoniously and symbiotically together (which all too often is not the case), but also many different persons in a stroke survivor's and caregiver's lives (which also all too often is not the case).
Family members, friends, faith communities, coworkers at one's workplace, volunteer contacts, and even kind/helpful persons as yet unencountered, etc. Far too often, there is ignorance and/or unwillingness among people who might logically be "villagers" or among those who may be in a role apropos to be a "villager". Failure of having "the village" "show up", or even failure of key people who do not "show up" for the Stroke Survivor and Caregiver, equates to substantially "less than recovery" as opposed to the degree that could be the case if folks were to "SHOW UP". So..., yes, having the VILLAGE "SHOW UP" is extremely important.
Far too often no one even thinks about that, or even realizes that. Far too often no one has opportunity to read about, hear about, understand, the importance of having "the Village" "SHOW UP!" And so, ... having this all important adage prominently stated in prose within our Stroke Caregiver Support website, is at least a start toward potential "villagers" actually becoming "villagers" by "SHOWING UP" for the Stroke Survivor, and their Caregiver.
