Preface
To the navigator of this webpage as a Caregiver for a person who suffered and survived Stroke. This webpage is purposed to provide pertinent information regarding Support Groups for Caregivers. Having the information in one place to refer to hopefully will be of help for you in saving you time and frustration.
Please know that this webpage (and indeed the website) has been assembled as a resource, and hopes are that you will receive compassion, love, consideration and utility from this assemblage. All of which were an integral part of this website's assemblage.
This website originates from the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Two generalizations about the listings scheme for this Caregiver Support Groups webpage. Higher on the list generalizes as groups geo-centric to Finger Lakes Region of New York State, and lower on the list generalizes as groups outside that home base. Generally, higher on the list are Stroke Caregiver Support Groups, and Brain Injury Caregiver Support Groups (which by definition do in fact include Stroke) are lower on the list.
Please note that most Support Groups listed within the Stroke (Survivor) Support Group cohort listing also welcome caregivers.
Description
American Stroke Association (ASA), an affiliate of American Heart Association (AHA), offers a "Stroke Support Group Finder" tool on the ASA website. Support groups for survivors and caregivers are key to recovering from stroke. Support groups connect you with others who have similar stories. It’s where you will find new friends, support, hope, and encouragement as you embark on your post-stroke journey.
Note: Please be advised, there are system limitations within this tool. Not all Stroke Support Groups are listed in this tool. Search is by zip code, so you must enter a zip code to find a group within a maximum 50 mile radius of said zip code. Search by geographic city, area, etc is not possible in this tool per se... however a possible "work-around" given the system limitation is to use an online search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, etc) searching for a Stroke Support Group by geographic city name (etc) and results may or may not come forth when using this tack.

EXCEPTION. SPECIALTY GROUP AND UNIQUE STRUCTURING. FOR PERSONS WITH RHD AND THEIR CAREGIVERS & LOVED ONES ONLY. NOTATION - There is no known dedicated RHD Caregiver Support Group. Indeed, any type of support group with focus on RHD and their caregivers is rare. Being that this Right Hemisphere Support Group is inclusive of RHD Caregivers, this group is co-listed herein among the Caregiver Support Groups cohort listing. It is not a Caregiver ONLY Support Group, but there is a component of this group beneficial for Caregivers.
The group is facilitated by two, licensed, experienced speech-language pathologists (SLPs) with depth of knowledge in Right Hemisphere Brain Damage (aka RHD).
